Emergency Visit Policy
We will make every effort to see an eye emergency as soon as possible without any appointment necessary. You will be seen as a walk-in basis and will have to wait between scheduled patients.
We cannot guarantee how long the wait will be but it usually will be less than 1 hour.
We ask that you please arrive at least 1-2 hours before closing time if possible. This is to ensure that we can do an urgent referral to an ophthalmologist or emergency room if necessary.
After hours, Dr. Yamada's pager/cell phone is on our voicemail. (650)992-2020
INSURANCE:
With confirmed eligibility, we can attempt to bill your vision insurance (if we are a participating provider) for the emergency visit but we need to know the diagnosis to ensure payment is covered. We do not know if your insurance will cover the cost of your visit until you are seen by the doctor and receive a diagnosis. After you are seen and we have a diagnosis code, our office staff will call your insurance to see if they will cover the visit when you check-out.
It is the insurance company that makes the final determination of eligibility and benefits.
If the insurance does not pay, the patient is responsible for the entire portion of the bill upon check-out.
For all medical insurances, we are an out-of-network provider. The patient is responsible for the entire portion of the bill but we can provide them with an itemized receipt to seek reimbursement. We can also refer you to an ophthalmologist covered under your medical insurance if you would prefer to be seen with an in-network provider.
Please speak to our staff if you have any questions about our fees before seeing the doctor.
